Terms of Service
1. Agreement
These terms govern your use of Butler, a personal home-display application that shows calendar events, weather, and currently playing music on a screen in your home, together with this website at butler.ly (together, the "Service"). By installing or using Butler, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.
2. What the Service is
Butler is software that runs on hardware you own and control. It is provided free of charge. We do not host your data, operate an account system, or run any server that the software depends on. You supply the device, the network connection, and your own credentials for Google, Spotify, and any other service you choose to connect.
3. Your responsibilities
- You are responsible for the security of the device Butler runs on and for the credentials stored on it.
- You may connect only accounts you own or are authorised to use.
- You must comply with the terms of any third-party service you connect, including Google's and Spotify's.
- You are responsible for what is displayed on a screen in your home, including any personal information about others that appears on your calendar.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- break any law, or infringe anyone's rights;
- access an account or calendar you have no permission to access;
- interfere with, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to any third-party API the software talks to.
5. Privacy
Our handling of data, including data received from Google APIs, is described in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
6. Third-party services
Butler connects to services operated by others — Google Calendar, Spotify, Open-Meteo, and optionally Telegram. We do not control them, are not responsible for them, and cannot guarantee their availability. Your use of each is governed by that provider's own terms.
7. No warranty
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, accurate, or error-free. Do not rely on Butler as your only reminder for anything that matters — a missed network connection, an expired credential, or a bug can leave the screen blank or out of date.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or missed appointments, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service. Since the Service is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you is limited to zero US dollars (US$0).
9. Ending your use
You may stop at any time: revoke Butler's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions, delete its stored credential, and uninstall the software. We may discontinue the Service, or stop publishing this website, at any time.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The effective date above will change, and the revised terms will be posted at this address. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the revision.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in New York.
